Hardcover. Condizione: Poor. No Dust Jacket. First Edition. Green cloth covers with black stamped lettering and color illustration on front board. The book is in over poor to fair condition: the covers are a bit soiled and worn, the page edges soiled, page 129 has been torn and taped, with a strip on now yellowed tape going all…the way diagonally from corner to corner, the text block is beginning to loosen and hinges beginning to crack, but all pages are still bound, and there is browning and some foxing to the contents. Despite these flaws, it is still a good, complete reading copy. Violet Gray was a Quaker author and her character, Margery Morris, is a young girl who lived in a Quaker town in New Jersey. This is the fourth (and last? ) of the Margery Morris series. A decent, complete reading copy of a hard-to-find original. ; 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Illustrated by Frontispiece and Three Full-Page Illustrations by Isabel W.Caley (illustratore).

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Edition Stated. Profusely illustrated children's stories with fine black and white drawings on heavy paper stock. Pictorial paper boards depict a young girl struggling with a goose, and on the reverse; a boy in shorts smiling over a large basket of eggs. No date apparent but book looks to hav…e been published in the 30's. Interior high-quality paper has held up well and is still quite fresh, all edges of boards are worn especially at tips, which are also bumped. This is an attractive, charming book of innocent adventure. H. McCready, Gordon Robinson, Ruth Cobb (illustratore).

Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. Softcover, light shelfwear, otherwise in Near Fine condition, glossary, bibliography. First edition, pp402. The year 2006 marks the 60th anniversary of the deaths of two major 20th-century Scottish poets: Marions Angus and Violet Jacob. Both women hailed from the North-East of Scot…land, and both produced poetry coloured by the voices and music of the region - although they also drew on influences from across Europe and beyond. Serious and whimsical, radical and emotional, the poetry of Angus and Jacob continues to enthrall. More than 200 poems are included in this comprehensive anthology, and editor Katherine Gordon traces their similarities and differences to provide an invaluable critical background for a full appreciation of their work.

Condizione: Sehr Gut. Zustandsbeschreibung: leichte Lagerspuren, Archivexemplarstempel auf Vorsatz/minor shelfwear, stamp on endpaper that marks the item as an archive copy. Ács discusses various aspects of the cultural and literary history of Hungary during the hundred years that followed the Battle of Mohács (1526) and the ons…et of the Reformation. The author focuses on the special Ottoman context of the Hungarian Reformation movements including the Protestant and Catholic Reformation and the spiritual reform of Erasmian intellectuals. The author argues that the Ottoman presence in Hungary could mean the co-existence of Ottoman bureaucrats and soldiers with the indigenous population. He explores the culture of occupied areas, the fascinating ways Christians came to terms with Muslim authorities, and the co-existence of Muslims and Christians. Ács treats not only the culture of the Reformation in an Ottoman context but also vice versa the Ottomans in a Protestant framework. As the studies show, the culture of the early modern Hungarian Reformation is extremely manifold and multi-layered. Historical documents such as theological, political and literary works and pieces of art formed an interpretive, unified whole in the self-representation of the era. Two interlinked and unifying ideas define this diversity: on the one hand the idea of European-ness, i.e. the idea of strong ties to a Christian Europe, and on the other the concept of Reformation itself. Despite its constant ideological fragmentation, the Reformation sought universalism in all its branches. As Ács shows, it was re-formatio in the original sense of the word, i.e. restoration, an attempt to restore a bygone perfection imagined to be ideal. 333 Seiten mit 28 Abb., gebunden (Refo500 Academic Studies - R5AS; Vol. 52/Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht 2019).
