Condizione: molto buono. in-8 (mm. 159x105), ff (8), 180, (1); leg. ottocentesca in cartonato con unghie, titolo ms. al dorso su tassello cartaceo.  Sotto il breve titolo, lo stemma degli Sforza in silografia, su fondo nero con lieve colorazione marrone chiaro. Gregorio I fu il primo monaco ad essere eletto Papa (590-604), importante sostenitore della visione monastica di San Benedetto così come un fervente promotore della sua Regola. Padre della Chiesa, fu proclamato Santo anche dalla Chiesa Ortodossa. I suoi Dialoghi raccolgono una serie di libri sulla vita di Santi italiani, abati, diaconi, suore, vescovi e sugli aspetti della vita dopo la morte (paradiso, inferno e purgatorio). L'opera vide la luce a Pesaro nella bottega di Hieronymo Soncino. E' certo che ?in casa di Aldo egli si sia perfezionato nell'arte della stampa, perché la prima volta che il suo nome compare nel colofone di un'opera - il De situ orbis di Pomponio Mela, uscito a Pesaro "per Petrum Capha, in domo Hieronymi Soncini, 1510, die IX Februarii" - si mostra provetto tipografo? (Diz. Biogr. Treccani).Non si conoscono le ragioni delle ?scelta di Pesaro come luogo di residenza, sia per la permanenza in casa di Gerolamo Soncino, emulo di Manuzio in più di un'occasione. La constatazione che sette delle otto opere prodotte dal C. rechino l'indicazione "in casa" o "a nome" del Soncino, può ben indurre a credere che l'influenza dell'editore ebreo? sia all'origine della presenza del C. in Pesaro; ma non è da escludere che il suo arrivo debba essere posto in relazione con la scomparsa di Nicola Brenta, Dalla lettera anteposta al Dialogo di Gregorio papa, si evince ?che al Soncino andasse tutto l'onore e il provento", (Treccani, che prosegue:). ?L'ipotesi che questo modesto stampatore dell'inizio, del sec. XVI fosse di origine giudaica, oltre che essere sostenuta dal nome (Capha, Cefa, "pietra"), sembrò trovare, in un primo tempo, conferma nel fatto che egli fu al servizio di uno dei più celebri editori e stampatori di testi ebraici?. Nel 1511 introdusse la stampa a Rimini.Lievi macchie al titolo e sparse nel volume. Il margine esterno bianco del foglio 5 è stato abilmente restaurato, b4 con tracce di stampa  nella parte inferiore bianca della pagina, b5 rifilato ai bordi, h1 strappo all'angolo inferiore.  Gran risalto ai rapporti del Capha con Soncino è dato da Manzoni Annali tipografici dei Soncino, III,  pp. 207-256, dove sono anche descritte le otto opere da lui curate.
