Lacking the map to the end of the volume.The study of the life of Cornish missionary and explorer George Grenfell, published two years after his death in Basoko from backwater fever. Written by British explorer, botanist, artist and colonial administrator Sir Harry Johnston. A passionate missionary, in 1903 Grenfell protested King Leopold against consistent refusal of the Congo Free State authorities to allow further Baptist advance beyond Yakusu on the Upper Congo, with no effect. In publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart with slight bumping and rubbing, resulting in a few small tears to the spine head and tail, and light marking. Internally, generally firmly boun, with a few delicate pages towards the centre. Small closed tear to page 68 and to the map facing page 494. Bright and clean with spotting heavier to the first and last few pages. Very Good.
