Ce roman le premier de Guy de Maupassant est une peinture remarquable des moeurs provinciales de la Normandie du XIXème siècle : hobereaux domestiques paysans sont décrits avec beaucoup de réalisme. (Not sure why there is a mermaid on the cover.) Cloth hinge has held the binding together admirably over these past 130+ years, some fingerprints and smears. Twelve steel engravings.
