Illustrated almost entirely throughout with full-page b/w photographic plates of lime-kilns, cooling-towers, blast-furnaces, winding-towers (mineheads), water towers, gas-holders and silos. The first photobook by German photogr…aphers Bernhard and Hilla Becher. The Becher's photography focused on post-war industrial architecture across Europe. They approached these structures as sculptural forms, created for utilitarian purposes apart from the landscapes they inhabit. The Becher's referred to these structures as "anonymous sculptures," highlighting the physical beauty of the buildings while also invoking a sense of melancholy. Signed and inscribed by the artists on the front flyleaf. Slight toning. Minimal text in German, English, and French. Pages are bright and clean. Binding is strong with a slight skew forward. Boards and spine are bumped in the corners, and lightly worn with a few small marks. The d/j is very worn and soiled. There is a 4 cm closed tear on the front starting at the foot, and has chips missing from the crown/head. . Hardcover: blue cloth over boards with d/j. Signed.

Jacket is lightly rubbed, with none of the usual wear to the extremities. An attractive copy. Anonyme Skulpturen Kunst-Zeitung Nummer [No.] 2: Large saddle-stapled wrappers, folded once horizontally as normally found. Some creasing at the folds, else easily Near Fine.
