Aggiungi al carrelloHardback. Condizione: Good. Interesting account of New Zealand, well illustrated with many colour and monochrome photos. Focused on the relationship between the US and New Zealand. 'It is easy to say that the two countries have a lot in common. This book attempts to bring that nebulous statement into sharp focus, to define the commonality of history, trade, technology and shared values. The spirit of New Zealand and the spirit of America meet in the love of freedom, of individual achievement and of overcoming, like Richard Pearse, the obstacles in our path to common prosperity.' Chapters include: The Spirit of New Zealand The Lure of New Zealand The Green Country The Face of America in New Zealand Wellington and San Fransisco Original Technologies in New Zealand The Special Challange of Isolation Directory of Contributors Credits Malcolm Sheffield established Sheffield House Publications in the late 1970s. Under this brand, from 1979, he produced a series of books entitled 'This is New Zealand.' Their purpose was to promote New Zealand exporters, businesses, lifestyle, landscape, arts etc. Sometime they also featured other countries such as the USA, Australia, and Singapore. The firms involved with each publication recieved the finished book to give out to clients, particularly foreign clients, as a means of promoting New Zealand achievements and potential. Heavy; Large; No DJ As Issued. 192 pages.

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: VG. No Jacket. Sketches, Diagrams Tables Etc (illustratore). new edition. Sub-titled "A Guide to the Examination of Second Hands, Skippers and Extra Skippers of Fishing Vessels and Trawlers" this volume contains Parts One and Two of this manual of navigation. The preface to this new edition of 1930 explains that this became necessary when the Admiralty decided in 1922 to change the timing for reckoning astronomical time at sea "from midnight instead of from noon." This change had "affected the working of all problems in which a heavenly body is used." The new timing was also adopted in tide tables. The preface advises that the new edition also brought the book up to date and included the "whole of the work necessary for fishermen to obtain their competancy certificates as extra skippers. While concentrating of navigational aspects, the twp parts cover a wide range of other issues of seafaring, such as logs, chartwork, seamanship and signalling. Part one, including its index, occupies 207 pages. with part two, also with index extending to page 384. Both parts also contain answers to questions posed in the main text. First edition thus of 1930, illustrated by two colour plates showing signal flags and Ensigns, two pages b/w sketches of buoy types, then illustrated throughout with sketches, diagrams, tables etc. --- more than 140 sketches and diagrams alone.) Brown hard covers are VG, with light wear to spine hinges/extremities, two small marks right front board, dealer label lower right front pastedown, ink name/date FFEP, few red ink lines in vertical margin page 81, several of the signal flags in the colour plate have been lightly marked (probably indicating they are obsolete) while the other 22 on that page have tiny ticks alongside, otherwise the text block is excellent. A scarce item.
