Child's pencilled scribbles first and last endpapers, some grubby marks in the margins. Apart from a long pencil mark on the plate facing p. 133, the plates are generally clean. Good condition. A very worn but charming edition of the Grimms' fairy tales, with all 24 of the Theaker plates called for. Harry G. Theaker (1873 - 1954) was an artist in a range of fields, but was particularly known for his illustrations for childrens'books.

The very good dustwrapper has edgewear to extremities with some old clear tape to reverse. Small chip toward head of rear gutter hinge - again with old clear tape repair. Not priceclipped. An attractive copy with the uncommon dustwrapper which has no toning to the spine. A young chimney sweep named Tom drowns while escaping a harsh master and is transformed into a tiny "water-baby" in an underwater world.
