In bewusst unzeitgemäßer Haltung hat er sich einem bildnerischen und gedanklichen Credo verschrieben, das zu den großen… utopischen Ideen der Antike sowie der nachfolgenden abendländischen Kultur gehörte und das vor allem im 18. Jahrhundert in der Epoche der Klassik und der Aufklärung eine prägende Kraft im Hinblick auf ein liberales und humanistisches Menschenbild entfaltete: Mitoraj belebt in seinen Statuen in kongenialer Nachfolge der bedeutenden griechischen Bildhauer des 5. Jahrhunderts vor Christus jenes klassische Ideal der Schönheit neu, das einst in der Philosophie und Kunsttheorie als ein Ausdruck des freien, autonomen Menschen galt. Doch dieses Ideal, diese Utopie ist zerbrochen. Denn dieser ästhetische Kanon ist in den Tragödien der Geschichte untergegangen und kann nicht mehr in der einstigen Vollkommenheit gestaltet werden. Der Künstler zeigt in seinen Arbeiten genau diese Disparatheit: der Rekurs auf die stille Größe der Antike wird durch das Fragmentarische seiner Arbeiten immer wieder unterbrochen. Es entstehen Werke, die somit Rückschlüsse auf die Katastrophen der Menschheit geben, in denen das Individuum immer wieder dem Untergang geweiht war. Gewissermaßen wird von Mitoraj der schmale Grat zwischen dem Schönen und Schrecklichen thematisiert, der den Werken eine ganz eigene Ausdruckskraft verleiht. Hier liegt eine Publikation vor, die eindrucksvoll die Werke in Szene setzt und auch in den Kontext klassischer und zeitgenössischer Lyrik stellt.

In bewusst unzeitgemäßer Haltung hat er sich einem bildnerischen und gedanklichen Credo verschrieben, das zu den großen… utopischen Ideen der Antike sowie der nachfolgenden abendländischen Kultur gehörte und das vor allem im 18. Jahrhundert in der Epoche der Klassik und der Aufklärung eine prägende Kraft im Hinblick auf ein liberales und humanistisches Menschenbild entfaltete: Mitoraj belebt in seinen Statuen in kongenialer Nachfolge der bedeutenden griechischen Bildhauer des 5. Jahrhunderts vor Christus jenes klassische Ideal der Schönheit neu, das einst in der Philosophie und Kunsttheorie als ein Ausdruck des freien, autonomen Menschen galt. Doch dieses Ideal, diese Utopie ist zerbrochen. Denn dieser ästhetische Kanon ist in den Tragödien der Geschichte untergegangen und kann nicht mehr in der einstigen Vollkommenheit gestaltet werden. Der Künstler zeigt in seinen Arbeiten genau diese Disparatheit: der Rekurs auf die stille Größe der Antike wird durch das Fragmentarische seiner Arbeiten immer wieder unterbrochen. Es entstehen Werke, die somit Rückschlüsse auf die Katastrophen der Menschheit geben, in denen das Individuum immer wieder dem Untergang geweiht war. Gewissermaßen wird von Mitoraj der schmale Grat zwischen dem Schönen und Schrecklichen thematisiert, der den Werken eine ganz eigene Ausdruckskraft verleiht. Hier liegt eine Publikation vor, die eindrucksvoll die Werke in Szene setzt und auch in den Kontext klassischer und zeitgenössischer Lyrik stellt.
