A contender for the first English novel, Daniel Defoe's epistolary, confessional and sometimes didactic work tells the story of Robinson Crusoe, a castaway who spends twenty eight years on a remote tropical island. This facsimile reprint of the first edition of this famous and highly imitated work shows how the original publication credits Robinson Crusoe as its author, which led many contemporary readers to believe that the novel was actually a travelogue of true incidents.
