'The Young Visiters or Mister Salteena's Plan' is a 1919 novel by English writer Daisy Ashford (1881-1972). She wrote it in 1890 when she was nine years old and part of its appeal lies in its juvenile innocence, and its unconventional grammar and spelling. A great success, it sold around half a million copies during the twentieth century and has been adapted for film, television, and as both a stage play and a musical. This edition has a seven page preface by J. M. Barrie. Ref O3. Heather Corlass (illustratore).…

Very Good+ condition; tight, bright within and minor shelf wear present otherwise a great example of this book. "The Young Visiters or, Mr Salteenas PLan" is the full, original title of a famous comic novel written by Daisy Ashford when she was just nine years old, in 1890. It was published in 1919 and became an immediate bestseller, partly due to its charming, innocent perspective of high society and its original misspellings and unconventional grammar, which were preserved in the published version.…

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. Reprint. First published in May 1919, this is an umpteenth impression of 1957. Some edge wear, chipping and small loss to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners rubbed with small loss, price clipped, no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg copy for its age. 64pp. Daisy Ashford (1881-1972), wrote 'The Young Visiters' when she was only nine years old and the book (and title) retains her childish spelling. Its child's view of high society (dukes and earls having 'levies' and residing in the 'Crystall Palace') and its heavily romantic plot make it an engaging and enduring popular work. When published in 1919, it was an immediate success, and several of her other stories were published in 1920. In the same year, she married James Devlin and settled in Norfolk, at one time running the King's Arms Hotel in Reepham. She did not write in later years, although in old age she did begin an autobiography which she later destroyed. She died in 1972. Jacket by Norman Wilkinson of Four Oaks, illustrations by Heather Corlass (illustratore).…
