Overall shelf wear and soiling, faded and slightly slanted spine, remains Good. The contents include numerous illustrations, some full page and in color. The text shows very slight…smudging, a few pencil marks and one slight hinge separation (not affecting binding integrity). This copy is from a 19th Century private lending institution, the Mercantile Library of New York City. The Mercantile Library stamp and number are on the title page and some of the internal pages and their two bookplates on the front pastedown. The spine has a small, oval Mercantile library sticker. There are no other indications of the library's ownership.

The reviewer in the Alpine Journal noted with some satisfaction that the book had been advertised by one magazine under the heading of ?FICTION? (?). (Neate).
