Paperback in wraps. 27 × 21cm, 219pp. This book focuses on this award-winning artist's relationship to Europe and the Mediterranean and explores how one relates to a particular place. Incorporating historic archival material, Jacir traces Europe through its history of colonialism and trade routes, reanimating it through performative gestures. Her work offers uniquely personal revelations about Europe's culture of exile and surveillance, etymology and language, as well as the tension between figuration and abstraction in art. Jacir utilises conceptual tools that reveal the political limitations of society, creating scenarios that erode or question communal boundaries and borders. The book includes reproductions of Jacir's works such as Material for a Film (2004-ongoing), which won the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale, as well as Stazione (2009) and Lydda Airport (2009). It also includes original essay contributions from Jean Fisher, Lorenzo Fusi and Omar Kholeif, among others. Published in association with Whitechapel Gallery, London. Condition: This copy is in very good condition, with a little light wear to the covers.

About the book >.>.> Walking along the vast brick and wood parcours of the Arsenale at the Venice Biennale in 2007, I was drawn to a modest display of photographs and documents. A snapshot of a young man on a balcony led to a creased airmail envelope that in turn snaked around a column and headed toward some pages from Dante's Inferno. There was even a video fragment of the 1963 Peter Sellers film, The Pink Panther. As I followed the trail of what appeared to be something between a personal archive and a cache of evidence, the humble snapshots, handwritten notes and yellowing leaflets unfurled a startling narrative. Material for a film (2004-ongoing) collates fragments of the life of Palestinian intellectual Wael Zuaiter. Like many of his countrymen, Zuaiter lived in exile, making Rome his base from the 1960s until 1972. Life could be hard and he occasionally made money as a film extra (he is the waiter whisking cocktails past Peter Sellers' Inspector Clouseau). It was in 1972 that this 38-year-old poet, translator, musician, PLO spoke.

Large 8vo.Published on occasion of an exhibition held at Darat al-Funun, 2014. Text in English and Arabic. Contributions by Adila Laïda-Hanieh, Ahmad Zatari, Yazid Anani & Emily Jacir. - - Since the early 1990s, Emily Jacir has created works about transformation, questions of translation, resistance, and the logic of the archive. With restrained formal means she makes visible silenced historical narratives, with a focus on her own political, historical, and social relationships. The book presents a fully illustrated survey of her oeuvre, including film and video works, installations, interventions, audio works, and sculpture. From 'Change/Exchange' (1998) to 'Untitled (SOLIDARIDAD)' (2013), the book contains reproductions of key works such as 'ex libris' (2010-2012), commissioned for Documenta (13), as well as several rarely seen works.
