Ink-crosses or marks in his hand drawing attention to four passages in 'The City of the Dreadful Night'. §Two of the three Powys brothers are known to have had an interest in Thomson. The novelist Louis Wilkinson reports that "in his undergraduate days [at Oxford]" he talked with T.F. Powys "of Nietzsche and Schopenhauer, of James Thomson . . . and Swinburne and other poets" but that "it was Nietzsche who then most attracted Theodore who bore a striking resemblance to one portrait of that destructive and creative philosopher" ('Some Memories of T.F. Powys', ed. Sewell, 1964, pp.10-11); Llewelyn Powys's collection 'Cup-Bearers of Wine and Hellebore', 1924, includes an 11 page essay on 'B.V.'; John Cowper Powys's interest in the 'pessimist poet', however, is perhaps unrecorded (a fairly tantalising pairing). Free endpapers browned, ownership signatures offset. Prelims., portraits & tissue-guards slightly foxed. A few leaves carelessly opened (see illustration of vol.
