No Binding. Condizione: Very Good. colour printed map, separately published; folds as issued; some tiny holes in cross folds; o/e exc. cond. A most stunning promotional map of the World published for the French chocolate company Menier, centred on the Pacific and outlining a route across the globe, starting and finishing in Pari…s. Below the map is a table to stick on 120 coupons which could be found in selected bars of chocolate. Once completed and having solved three 'enigme' along the route, one was supposed to sent off the completed table to Menier, resulting in most maps missing the lower part. This fine example has the table still intact. Jannot aka Jan-Loup was an artist and illustrator a French magazine from the 1950s to the early 1960s, and he also designed scarves for the fashion house Hérmes. The Menier Chocolate company was founded by Jean Antoine Brutus Menier in 1816. Though not trained as a pharmacist, he sold a variety of different powders for medicinal purposes and used chocolate as an ingredient to make the medicine more palatable. In 1836, Menier was the first company to introduce blocks of chocolate, covered in greenish-yellow wrapper which became iconic for the brand. And in 1893, the company started a poster advertising campaign, created by Firmin Bouisset, showing a little girl writing the name 'Chocolat Menier' on a wall with a piece of chocolate. The company is still going strong though the Menier family withdrew from management in 1959.

No Binding. Condizione: Good. Date: 1954 // Size: 30 x 19.25 inches // Artist: Jan-loup // About the Poster: A charming vintage French travel poster printed in the 1950s designed for the Chocolate Menier company. Recently linen-backed, this poster would look absolutely amazing framed, perfect for any children's room! // The Meni…er Chocolate company was a chocolate manufacturing business founded in 1816 as a pharmaceutical manufacturer in Paris, France, at a time when chocolate was used as a medicinal product. The company grew throughout the 1820s to 1880s, gaining worldwide popularity. The company even exhibited at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago where they were billed as the leading chocolate makers in the world! // Despite the Menier Chocolate company's strong brand recognition and an effective marketing of children's books utilizing the fables of Jean de la Fontaine, by the 1950s the industry leader in France was being swamped by its competitors. This poster represents one of their last promotional campaigns; the following decade (1960) they would be forced to merge with the Cacao Barry company. // This map is extremely detailed with comical scenes of explorers and animals from around the world -- definitely worth pouring over for hours on end.
