Leather. Condizione: Very Good Indeed. A half morocco edition of Kenny Meadow's humorous work discussing people's features and how they denote personality, in signed bindings by Henderson & Bisset. An excellent example of this work, in half morocco signed bindings by Henderson & Bisset. This work looks at peoples faces, and discusses in a satirical manner how their features denote their personality. Some of the people described in the volumes include the Whig, the ballet mistress, the young squire, the poor curate, the quack doctor, the collegian, the dowager, the barrister, the waiter, and more.Illustrated with a frontispiece and illustrated title page to each volume.Volume I features forty-nine further plates, and volume II features fifty-two further plates. Collated, complete.Illustrated by Kenny Meadows, a caricaturist who is best known for his contributions to 'Punch'. His illustrations were known for a humorous bohemian style, and for the quality of his illustrations. This was his first major work. Contributors to the work, writing essays to accompany Meadow's illustrations, include William Makepeace Thackeray, Leigh Hunt, Douglas Jerrold, and William Howitt. With the illustrated bookplate of American industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie to each front pastedown. Carnegie, born in Scotland, emigrated to America as a child, and was instrumental in the expansion of the American steel industry, becoming one of the richest Americans in history, and a leading philanthropist in the United States, Great Britain, and the British Empire. During the last eighteen years of his life, he gave away ninety percent of his fortune to charitable causes. In half morocco signed bindings, with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, excellent. Light rubbing to board tails. Bookplates to front pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages of volume I exceptionally clean and bright. Ten plates of volume II feature major tide marks, with light tide marks to the heads of twenty further plates. Pages clean and bright. Very Good Indeed. Kenny Meadows (illustratore). book.
