Top edges gilt. Deckle fore edges. Black and white frontispieces with tissue guards. Black and white plates. Bindings tight. Hinges NOT cracked. Corners and spine ends mildly rubbed, with minor fraying at tips. Pages lightly and uniformly tanned but still supple. Pages clean and unmarked. Some page still uncut (unopened). Volume 2 has a two-inch light moisture stain at the bottom spine corner. Stain is visible inside on just the first few pages, and on the last twenty or so pages, in bottom corner at gutter. 369 + 358 pages. No dust jackets. Carefully packed, shipped in a box.

Brummel was an important figure on late eighteenth century London society and was a close friend of the Prince Regent, the future King George IV before the two quarrelled and got into debt. However, Brummel has since been the subject of numerous literary portrayals has become a pre-eminent example of the dandy, who is best remembered for his rejection of overly ornate clothes for well-fitted bespoke garments. After a chronological narrative of Brummell's early life before Captain Jesse elaborates on Brummell's accomplishments, influence on society, and political views, before zooming in on important events in Brummell's life. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Very lightly rubbed to the boards, a little more so to the spine. Rather bumped to the head of the spine, less to to the tail. The front hinge is starting, but firm. Internally, firmly bound, with bright and clean pages throughout. Very Good. book.
