Essays devoted to a genre exist alongside essays devoted to one book, institutions are presented side by side with literary movements, & large surveys appear next to detailed discussions of specific landmarks. No article is limited to the "life & works" of a single author. Proust, for example, appears through various lenses, fleetingly, in 1704, apropos of Antoine Galland's translation of "The Thousand & One Nights"; in 1898, in conjunction w/ the Dreyfus affair; in 1905, on the occasion of the law on the separation of church & state; in 1911, in relation to Gide & their different treatments of homosexuality; & at his death in 1922. Pencilled ownership name or initials (unfortunately illegible) to front free endpaper, and some penci…lled annotations, corrections, ticks (all readily erasable) to margins of approximately 25 pages of text - together with few loosely inserted annotated scraps of paper - clearly indicating that this previous owner had examined the manuscript. Spine ends slightly rubbed (but not frayed). A very good copy.

Single issue from the new series of Oracle newspapers published out of Larkspur (in Marin County) after the origi…nal City of San Francisco Oracle was laid to rest in 1968. It was more focused on spiritual teachings and teachers, although it also had considerable poetry. This issue includes Chet Helms and Family Dog interview, Woodstock announcement and ticket-order form, Ram Das interview. There is a photo spread on the July 27th march to the sea, as well as a ticket form for Woodstock which would occur on August 15th.
