Written by Joseph Addison, an English essayist, poet, playwright, and politician, and Sir Richard Steele, an Anglo-Irish writer, playwright and politician. They are best known as co-founders of the magazine The Spectator, a daily publication in England, lasting from 1711 to 1712, which aimed "to enliven morality with wit, and to temper wit with morality." Illustrated by Ralph Cleaver, a British artist and soldier. In the original blue cloth binding with gilt. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Light spotting to the endpapers with a contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper dated 1896. Very Good. book.
