Een belangrijke vroege monografie over Jozef Peeters (1895-1960), een van de pioniers van de Belgische abstracte en constructivistische kunst. Flor Bex brengt Peeters' artistieke ontwikkeling, zijn grafisch werk, schilderijen en toegepaste kunst samen en plaatst hem binnen de internationale avant-garde van de jaren 1920. Deze rijk geïllustreerde monografie biedt een bijzonder interessant overzicht van het oeuvre van Jozef Peeters, die samen met onder meer Karel Maes en Georges Vantongerloo tot de eerste Belgische abstracte kunstenaars behoort. Peeters ontwikkelde vanaf het begin van de jaren 1920 een sterk geometrische en constructivistische beeldtaal, waarin kleur, lijn, vlak en ritme centraal staan. Flor Bex behandelt niet alleen zijn schilderkunst, maar ook zijn linosneden, grafiek, meubelontwerpen, textiel, keramiek en interieurontwerpen. Daarnaast is er ruime aandacht voor zijn contacten met de internationale avant-garde en voor zijn belangrijke rol als organisator en theoreticus van de moderne kunst in Antwerpen. Samen met Michel Seuphor was Peeters betrokken bij het vooruitstrevende tijdschrift Het Overzicht, terwijl hij ook internationale kunstenaarscontacten onderhield in Parijs en Berlijn. Jozef Peeters (Antwerpen, 1895-1960) was schilder en graficus en geldt als een van de vroege pioniers van de Belgische abstracte kunst.
