Gustav Kampmann studierte an der Karlsruher Kunstschule und wandte sich als Meisterschüler von Hermann Baisch der Landschaftsmalerei zu. Zu seinen bekanntesten Gemälden gehören Fallende Blätter' (1895) und Nach Sonnenuntergang' (1…902). Nach der Gründung des Karlsruher Künstlerbundes 1894, dessen Mitglied Kampmann wurde, widmete er sich der Lithographie und arbeitete als Graphiker für die Zeitschrift Pan'" (DBE). Ab 1915 litt er unter einer schweren Hornhautentzündung des linken Auges, was ihm neben seinem nach wie vor starken Rheuma die Malerei zur Qual machte. 1917 wurde er deshalb auf eigenen Wunsch aus dem Kriegsdienst entlassen. Im selben Jahr starb Kampmann durch eigene Hand, indem er sich die Pulsadern öffnete. Seine Witwe ließ in der Zeitung schreiben, er sei seinen Krankheiten erlegen" (Wikipedia, Abfrage v. 16. XI. 2009). Papierbedingt etwas gebräunt; die Adresse mit alten Tintenwischern.
