Die Ausstattung genügt höheren Ansprüchen. Jährlich erscheinen nur einige wenige, mit strenger Sorgfalt vorbereitet, neue Bändchen. Grundsätzlicher Ablehnung jeder Schnellerzeugung! Franz Carl Spitzweg (auch Karl Spitzweg; * 5. Februar 1808 in München; 23. September 1885 ebenda) war ein deutscher Maler und Zeichner. Er gilt als bedeutender Kunstmaler der Spätromantik und des Biedermeiers. Carl Spitzweg schuf über 1500 Bilder und Zeichnungen. Ab 1824 begann er mit Ölfarben zu malen. Zu Lebzeiten konnte Spitzweg etwa vierhundert Gemälde verkaufen. Bewunderer und Käufer fand er vor allem in der zu neuer Kaufkraft gelangten Bürgerschaft, wenngleich die Popularität, die Spitzwegs Malerei heute genießt, erst nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg einsetzte. Spitzweg hatte einen ausgeprägten Farbensinn. Durch die Apothekerausbildung gewann er chemische und technische Erfahrung bei der Herstellung seiner Farben. Er verwendete ein einmaliges, hell leuchtendes Blau, das man bei keinem anderen Maler wiederfindet. Er verstand es auch, dauerhafte Farben zu produzieren. Von seinen weiten Reisen brachte Spitzweg eine reiche Sammlung von Skizzen mit nach Hause, die er im Atelier in seine Gemälde einfügte. Der Verlag Langewiesche Nachfolger (vollständig Karl Robert Langewiesche Nachfolger Hans Köster Verlagsbuchhandlung KG) ist einer der ältesten noch selbständigen Verlage in Deutschland mit Sitz in Königstein im Taunus im Hochtaunuskreis in Hessen. Zu den bekanntesten Veröffentlichungen des Verlages zählen Die Blauen Bücher gibt es seit dem 5. Mai 1902 im Verlag von Karl Robert Langewiesche, bis 1913 in Düsseldorf, seitdem bis heute in Königstein im Taunus. Am erfolgreichsten und im Bewusstsein einer breiten Öffentlichkeit verankert waren die Blauen Bücher zwei Generationen lang, bis etwa 1960. War der Gründer Karl Robert Langewiesche - besonders nach einem Gespräch 1910 mit dem Kunstgeschichts-Professor Wilhelm Pinder - von dem Wunsch beseelt, seiner Nation mit seiner Arbeit "dienen zu dürfen", so geriet dieser Dienst ab 1933 seinen Nachfolgern manches Mal zur Anbiederung an die Nationalsozialisten, und nur schleppend änderte sich nach 1945 die Gesinnung grundlegend.
