Here for your consideration is another of my newly listed vintage, large format, and learned art books , in this case, titled: Spanish Painting from the Catalan Frescos to El Greco, with the text by Jacques Lassaigne and translated by Stuart Gilbert. This very large book (10 x 13 ¾ inches, 138 pages) was published by the distinguished publishing house Editions Albert Skira of Geneva, Switzerland, dated 1952. All of the seventy color plates are tipped-in and many are full-page, all bright and glossy prints. The book is bound in beige coarse linen with dark red titles on cover and spine; it is protected by a price-clipped, pictorial dust jacket and housed in a cardboard slipcase. The colophon on the last page suggests that this is the First Printing of this edition. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The cardboard slipcase, however, is very much darkened, with some light damage to its top & bottom opening and some white spots. The dust jacket has a five inch tear up the spine which has been inexpertly mended with common tape. It also exhibits some other light edge wear. The hard covers show some age-toning to the linen and some very light darkening from handling along the edges; the lower spine is also bumped. Inside the pages are unmarked although the leading edge shows some very light age-toning, again possibly as a result of normal handling. The text and plates are clean and bright throughout. The hinges are fully intact and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.

Housed in the publisher's orignal cardboard slipcase. Frontispiece and illustrated title page in color. The binding, in otherwise fine condition, has a hint of sunning at the top and bottom edges of the spine and the partially sun-faded slipcase is slightly bumped at foot of spine. This exquisite work contains Marc Chagall's original designs for "Aleko, "The Firebird" and "Daphnis and Chloe." Fernand Mourlot printed the color plates and the original lithograph.
