Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback large trade, very good condition, black & white text-photos, edges lightly foxed, minor edgewear. 106 pp. This first play by Dorothy Hewett is located solidly in the physical location of Redfern, an inner Sydney suburb. The changes that were happening at this time are reflected in the dialogue of the actors. The play is acted out in the years before the Vietnam War, and before young people issued their 1960s challenge to the moral values of their parents. Includes notes by Jack Beasley and Merv Lilley on the Redfern that they remember. Dorothy Hewett worked in the industrial areas of Redfern and Alexandria in the 1950s. The photos are from the first production at the New Fortune Theatre, University of Western Australia, Perth, 1967.

Aggiungi al carrelloSoftcover. Condizione: Very Good. POETRY [24] p. : ill. ; 20 cm. #1020Reading through Merv Lilleyâs work in preparing the anthology was a revelation to me. Of course I knew he was a poet, and I knew some of his work, but now I realised that the bright light of his wife Dorothy Hewettâs poetry had meant, for me at least, less recognition of Mervâs own talent. We chose two pieces by Merv for this anthology: one a short but powerful poem from his book Cautious Birds, the other, entitled âSwiftâ, made up of three extracts from a longer work. These are among my favourites in the anthology. âSwiftâ was written late in Mervâs life and his daughter Rozanna Lilley has said she canât entirely tell if it is about Mervâs mother or about Dorothy â" perhaps there are elements of both â" itâs a pretty universal affirmation of loss and persistent connection. I love the excerpts published here for their apparent naturalness that is carefully crafted. The images especially draw on light and sound, so that the commemoration of the dead is embodied and vivid, what you see and hear. As elegy they speak for so many; they contain both sadness and beauty, and find correlation in natureâs patterns of regeneration: âthe wildflowers springing seasonally all over again following drought and rainâ."
