Gutes Exemplar. - Italienisch. // Ambrogio Lorenzetti (* um 1290 in Siena; um 1348 ebenda; teils auch Ambruogio Laurati) war ein italienischer Maler. Ambrogio und sein Bruder Pietro Lorenzetti waren wichtige Vertreter der Schule von Siena. Ambrogio malte hauptsächlich in der Zeit von 1317 bis zu seinem Tod Altargemälde und Fresken. Berühmt wurde er für seine allegorische Darstellung der Guten und schlechten Regierung im Palazzo Pubblico, im Rathaus von Siena. Für die europäische Malerei ist Lorenzettis Freskenzyklus Gute und schlechte Regierung ein Schlüsselwerk. Neuer Bildanalyse zufolgeist darauf zu erkennen, dass Homers und Hesiods Werke in Westeuropa bereits vor Petrarca im westlichen Europa bekannt gewesen sein müssen, da Lorenzetti offensichtlich in diesem Werke von bereits existierendem Bildmaterial ausging, wie man das in Homers Schildbeschreibung (Homer: Ilias, 18. Gesang) wie auch in Hesiods Schild des Herakles überprüfen kann. Aber auch aus Werken anderer Autoren wurden bei der Konzeption von Lorenzettis Bildzyklus Gute und schlechte Regierung Bildzitate übernommen, wie beispielsweise von Cicero, Augustinus, Seuse u. a. Sein Fresko Allegorie der Guten Regierung im Palazzo Pubblico (Siena) enthält auch die vermutlich erste Darstellung einer Sanduhr. // Pietro Lorenzetti (* um 1280[1] in Siena; wahrscheinlich 1348 ebenda) war ein italienischer Maler und der ältere Bruder von Ambrogio Lorenzetti. Er gilt als Nachfolger Giottos, da er den Freskenzyklus der Unterkirche der Basilika San Francesco in Assisi ab etwa 1325 fertigstellte. Im Palazzo Pubblico von Siena malte er mit seinem Bruder Ambrogio drei Wände der Sala dei Nove in einem Großauftrag aus. Die Fresken dort stellen in politisch schulmeisterlicher Manier allegorisch Die gute und die schlechte Regierung, mit ihren Auswirkungen auf die Bevölkerung in Stadt und Land dar (gemalt zwischen 1337 und 1339, im unteren Abschnitt heute schwer beschädigt). Vorbilder waren für ihn u. a. Duccio di Buoninsegna, Giotto und Giovanni Pisano. Von Duccio übernahm er die Figurendarstellung wie z. B. im Retabel der Pfarrkirche von Arezzo, von Giotto lernte er Raumdarstellung und Verkürzung und von Pisano die Leidenschaftlichkeit des Vortrags. Da nach 1348 jegliche Nachrichten über die Brüder Lorenzetti fehlen, wurden sie sehr wahrscheinlich Opfer der Pestepidemie von 1348.
