Von 1921 bis zu seiner Pensionierung im Jahre 1938 war Ludendorff Direktor des Observatoriums. Bearbeite das Gebiet der veränderlichen Sterne und spektroskopischer Doppelsterne, ferner sind seine seit 1930 betriebenen Auswertungen der astronomischen Kenntnisse der Maya von bleibendem Wert.
