August eine Fülle von Dankespflicht auf uns gehäuft, da…ß ich kaum in der Lage bin, ihr zu genügen. [] Der beifolgende Kunstdruck möchte Ihnen denselben zu erreichen wiederholen. Die Heimatliebe u. die Ehrung der Ueberlieferungen ihrer Stadt, welche die Bewohner Nördlingens erkennen lassen, haben meinem Glauben an die unfassbaren u. darum unverwüstlichen Kräfte unseres Volkes neuen Auftrieb verliehen. Solch betätigte Treue schafft Vaterlandsliebe. Ich habe in Nördlingen mich also an Altem u. Neuem erbaut, an der Stein gewordenen Vergangenheit u. an dem in seinen heutigen Bewohnern lebendigen Geist. ,Lieb' Vaterland magst ruhig sein' kam mir in den Sinn, Möchte der alte Soldat von 1870/71 u. Sie rufen dem deutschen Volke von heute zu: Sei einig und Du wirst frei sein'!" - Der große Heerführer des Ersten Weltkriegs…(u. a. leitete er 1915 den Feldzug gegen Serbien, im Herbst 1916 den gegen Rumänien) schied nach dessen Ende aus dem Militärdienst; 1933 von den Nationalsozialisten zum preußischen Staatsrat ernannt und nach Hindenburgs Tod 1934 als letzter großer Feldherr des Ersten Weltkriegs für propagandistische Zwecke vereinnahmt, schenkte der Reichskanzler ihm 1935 die Domäne Brüssow und ernannte ihn zum Chef des 5. Kavallerieregiments. 1945 konnte der hochbetagte "Edel-Preuße", als den Hitler ihn sah, vor der Roten Armee nach Westen fliehen, verstarb aber im Sommer des Jahres. - Geringf. Spuren alter Montage.
