French text. - LeCoutumier bourguignon glosé is a scholarly edition of a late 14th-century Burgundian customary law text with glosses (commentary). It presents a compilation of local legal customs from the duchy of Burgundy (centered around Dijon and Beaune) that had been recorded and expanded over the 1300s. The glosses draw on Roman and canon law to explain and elaborate customary rules, showing how learned legal doctrine influenced local practice. The work reflects a period when Burgundy was a major political power in late medieval France, and before its official customary code was promulgated in 1459. Condition : very good copy.
