The main text on jazz and blues history accompanies the images, with biographical accounts of each artist, and gives recommended recordings. Dizzy Gillespie has contributed a brief text at start. Musicians include Miles Davis, Gillespie, Dave Brubeck, Dexter Gordon, Benny Goodman, Stan Getz, John Lee Hooker, Sarah Vaughan, Sippie Wallace and many others.
