This is above a ribbon with "EX LIBRIS" in text. This is above two lines of text: William Mayhew Folger in bold type and United States Navy in more regular type. This appears to have been removed from a book. Rear AdmiralWilliam Mayhew Folger(19 May 1844 - 22 July 1928) was anofficerin theUnited States Navy. He served in theAmerican Civil War. He filled a wide range of roles, including Chief of theBureau of Ordnance, over the following 30 years. He fought in theSpanish-American Waras captain of theprotected cruiserUSSNew Orleans. Folger served as a lighthouse inspector before becoming commander of the Philippine Squadron during thePhilippine-American War, and was briefly Commander-in-Chief of theUnited States Asiatic Fleet. He retired in 1905 as a rear admiral.
