Trade Paperback. Condizione: Good. 102 Pages. A used book showing some wear but reasonably tight, complete, and free of marks. Biographical note by W. McNaught. Introduction by Gordon Jacob. The date of completion of this symphony is not known, as the original manuscript has been lost. It was first performed on 2 April, 1800, at Vienna. From what we know of Beethoven's method of working it can be guessed that the symphony had been on the stocks for some time. In fact, recognizable sketches for it are found among papers dated 1795. In 1800 the composer was thirty years of age, and the only other orchestral works he had written were two piano concertos, in C, op. 15, and in B flat, op. 19. His output had otherwise consisted entirely of chamber music and pianoforte sonatas. In spite of this, his handling of the orchestra shows no signs of uncertainty and is thoroughly expert and effective.
