Laut Houbraken schuf er 24 Stiche nach Johann Wilhelm Baur zur Passion Christi, aber auch eine Serie nach Ovid. Laut dem RKD illustrierte er Bibeln. Er war wahrscheinlich der Bruder des Kupferstechers Mathäus Küsel. Seine Tochter Johanna Sibylla heiratete seinen Schüler, den Kupferstecher Johann Ulrich Kraus.
