Aggiungi al carrelloCondizione: Sehr gut. 159 S. Umschlag leicht berieben, sonst gutes Exemplar. - Bildband mit kurzer engl. Einführung - Flying to Ljubljana in the spring of '01 I was already familiar with Marko Modic's photography but could not help wondering if there would be enough material for an entire book. My doubts proved to be completely unfounded. It took me three days to sift through approximately 11,000 colour slides. And I was surprised to find that there were hardly any exposure sequences or series of the same motif. Each picture remained a entity in itself, with no alternatives. At the same time I was even more impressed by Modic's consistent, almost humourless visual approach. In principle all photographs were the same: taken at a strict 90 degree angle to the motif, their visual elements condensed onto a plane, aligned to the same point or axis. Devoid of anything unnecessary the images had been cut to size, almost filleted. And amongst them (more than 150 slide boxes in all) there was not one portrait, not a single pair of eyes, hardly any people at all. There seems to be no semantic approach to Modic's work - it remains secondary to the formal severity of the conceptional. Due to this strict reduction there is very little comparative framework - the dimensions that would allow the definition of an object, of its size or overall shape have been deliberately removed. At the same time and remarkably enough Modic's pictures are not the product of a studio environment. In his studio there are no lighting rigs, no flash transformers, not even a tripod. The pictures never went through post-production on a computer or in a lab and all off them were taken by hand, usually in natural light, a lot of light, mainly outdoors. For this reason some colours keep resurfacing in his pictures and these serve as backdrops for his images. Almost all of the photographs in this book were taken on Hvar Island, in Patagonia, New York, on the Galapagos Islands or in Ecuador. Somehow it seems logical for Modic to head to Ecuador where the sun is as perpendicular to the equator as his camera remains to his motifs. Robert Klanten.
