The present work is an edition of the first part of Nicolaus Bergius's dissertation Exercitatio Historico-Theologica de statu ecclesiae et religionis Moscoviticae, printed in 1704. The first part of his work consists of two sections: the first historical, comprising 20 chapters, the second dogmatic, comprising 33 chapters, in essence a comparison between the Lutheran catechism and the first part of Peter Mogila's Orthodox Confession. The historical section of Bergius's dissertation contains most of what was known about Russia in the West in terms of people, language, alphabets, faith, translations of the Bible, printed books, printing houses, churches and monasteries, clergy, liturgy, feast days, schools, sects etc. With particular interest Bergius treats the Old Believers, of whom he gives a broad survey. Bergius has read next to everything, and he constantly refers to what his different sources tell about the matter under discussion and often choses the version he finds most trustworthy.

Faksimildelen tryckt på färgat papper med illustrationer i färgtryck. - Das Dialogus creaturarum optime moralizatus, kurz meist Dialogus creaturarum, ist eine in der Inkunabelzeit gedruckten Sammlung von 122 Fabeln in lateinischer Sprache, die aus verschiedenen antiken Quellen stammen und in Form von Dialogen dargestellt sind. Jede der Fabeln des Dialogus creaturarum eröffnet im Zwiegespräch der anthropomorphen Kreaturen, angefangen bei Sonne, Mond und Sternen, über die Elemente hin zu Pflanzen und Tieren, ein Geschehen und endet mit einer moralischen Erläuterung. Behandelt werden allgemein menschliche Fragen, die entsprechend der Bibel, der Kirchenväter oder der klassischen Philosophie beantwortet werden. In den letzten zwei Fabeln kommen auch Menschen zu Wort. Der Verfasser der um 1400 entstanden Sammlung ist unbekannt; ausgehend von den Angaben in einigen Drucken wurden Maynus de Mayneriis oder Nicolaus Pergamenus/Pergaminus vermutet. Die Sammlung wurde in lateinischer Sprache und versehen mit Holzschnitten von Gerard Leeu 1480 in Gouda gedruckt; eine niederländische Fassung gab Leeu 1481 heraus. Weitere Auflagen seines Dialogus druckte Leeu 1486 und 1491 in Antwerpen, wohin er 1484 seine Offizin verlegt hatte. Ebenfalls 1481 erschien eine Ausgabe in Köln. 1482 übersetzte Colard Mansion in Brügge das Werk ins Französische und lies zwei Manuskripte anfertigen, von denen sich eines in der österreichischen Nationalbibliothek befindet (Cod. 2572). Mit dem 20. Dezember 1483 datierte Johann Snell in Stockholm seinen Druck der Sammlung; dieser ist mit kolorierten Holzschnittillustrationen versehen und war das erste gedruckte Buch in Schweden. - An Ecken und Kapitalen leicht bestoßen, mit einer Widmung in Tinte auf dem Vorsatz. Ansonsten tadelloses Exemplar des liebevoll gestalteten und umfangreich kommentierten Faksimilebandes anlässlich der 500-Jahrfeier dieses ersten gedruckten Buches Schwedens. sv Gewicht in Gramm: 1490 8° (22 x 15 cm).
