Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. First Edition. A first impression of the true first edition of this anthology of short stories by leading writers of the 1930s. The book was published as No. 75 in Jonathan Cape's 'Florin Books' series, published at two shillings (2/-) or a Florin. ***Near fine in textured oatmeal cloth-covered boards with brown titles to the spine and front board. The boards are clean and unmarked. No creases or bumps. Corners sharp. Very slight reading lean to the binding, but no reading creases to the spine. Page block edges clean. Internally also near fine with no inscriptions. The paper used is quite thin, but there is virtually no creasing. Pages clean. No creases or tears. ***In a very good printed dustwrapper, which has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of 2s. net. The dustwrapper is complete, with just some light edge wear at the top edge. There is some light creasing also to the top edges and a small closed tear at the top edge of the back panel near the foldover flap. No chips and no serious creases or tears. The spine colour remains unfaded - just slightly browned. Dustwrapper bright. ***185mm x 125mm. 256 pages plus an extensive 24 page Florin Books Catalogue at the back of the book. ***Contents: Sally Go Round the Moon by H. E. Bates, Blind by Douglas Boyd, One of the Leaders by Arthur Calder-Marshall, Prince of Obolo by Roger Dataller, The End of the Party by Graham Greene, The Saint who Lost his Halo by Charles Hodges, Zimin by Janko Lavrin, The way Home by Orgill MacKenzie, Panahard and Mr. Snaith by A. G. Morris, Bones of Contention by Frank O'Connor, The son by L. A. Pavey, Ditched by Hugh de Selincourt, Travellers by L. A. G. Strong, Their fellow Prisoner by Urith Voyle, Who Killed Cock Robin? by Romer Wilson and The Stream by E. H. Young. ***'A new collection of representative English Short Stories, and a companion volume to Modern English Short Stories and English Short stories of To-day, both of which have been in great demand as Florin Books. The list of authors includes H. E. Bates, Arthur Calder Marshall, Roger Dataller, Graham Greene, Janko Lavrin, Orgill MacKenzie, Frank O'Connor, L. A. Pavey, Hugh de Selincourt, L. A. G. Strong, Romer Wilson and E. H. Young.' (Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper) ***A first impression of the true first edition of this anthology of short stories by leading writers of the 1930s - including Graham Greene and H. E. Bates. Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. 1st Edition. A true first edition, first printing of The Best Short Stories of 1923 and the Yearbook of the American Short Story, edited by Edward J. O'Brien. Published by Small, Maynard & Company, Boston, in 1924, this landmark annual anthology is an important work in twentieth-century American literature. Most notably, it contains the first appearance of Ernest Hemingway's celebrated short story, My Old Man, in book form, making it a significant title for Hemingway collectors. The true first printing is further distinguished by the famous misspelling of Hemingway's name as "Hemenway" in the dedication and contents, a well-known bibliographical point sought by collectors. This copy is a true first edition, first printing and remains in Near Fine condition. The binding is tight, the gilt lettering remains attractive, and the interior is clean and well preserved, with only light signs of age consistent with nearly a century of careful ownership. No dust jacket is present. An increasingly desirable early Hemingway-related title and an important anthology of American short fiction, this volume represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a well-preserved first printing of a book that marks Hemingway's first appearance in book form. A fine addition to collections of Ernest Hemingway, modern first editions, and twentieth-century American literature.…
