Durch die Wohnanlagen und Siedlungen, die er in den zwanziger Jahren in Rotterdam errichtete, wurde er auch international einer der bekanntesten Vertreter des Internationalen Stils. 1954 wurde er von der Technischen Universität Delft zum Ehrendoktor ernannt. 1100 gr. Blueprint on tracing paper, both 52x63 cm., titled and dated. Jacobus Johannes Pieter Oud, known simply as J.J.P, was a leading Dutch architect, designer, and urban planner of the modern movement. Born in 1890, he was educated at the Quellinus Arts and Crafts School, Amsterdam, the Rijksnormal School, Amsterdam, and Netherland D…elft Technical University in Amsterdam. He later gained practical experience working both in Amsterdam and Munich. In 1917, alongside Theo van Doesburg and Piet Mondrian, he became involved with the De Stijl group of avant-garde artists and their influential periodical. J.J.P. Oud was one of several architects to participate in Seidlung Weissenhof, Stuttgart, a 1927 exhibition of modern architectural solutions to contemporary living. The Weißenhofsiedlung Stuttgart (Weissenhof Estate in Stuttgart) is one of the most important testimonies to the Neues Bauen (New Way of Building) movement. As a 1927 building exhibition entitled "Die Wohnung" ("The Residence"), the Estate presented new forms of living, which had been called for and promoted by the Deutscher Werkbund, to a national and international audience. 17 architects from a variety of countries participated in the exhibition. They included Le Corbusier, Gropius and Scharoun. Under the artistic guidance of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, they created an exemplary residential programme for modern metropolitan man. 21 model houses were developed.
