By permission of Lord Francis Egerton, President of the Camd…en Society, they have been transcribed from a great body of miscellaneous original manuscripts preserved at Bridgewater House, accumulated by his Lordship's ancestor, who, while Sir Thomas Egerton, was Keeper of the Great Seal to Queen Elizabeth, and who, having been created in the first instance Baron Ellesmere, and subsequently Viscount Brackley, filled the office of Lord Chancellor of England during considerably more than half the reign of James I. "The Egerton Papers" go back to a period considerably anterior to the date when Lord Ellesmere (for he is best known by that title). Condition: Spine ends lightly chipped, corners bumped, inner hinge beginning, slightly shaken else about very good.

Diary of Dr. Edward Lake, Chaplmain and tutor to the Princesses Mary and Anne, 1677-1678. The Royal Historical Society (and its predecessor body, the Camden Society) has since 1838 published editions of sources on British History. It is a very good collection of editions of sources and important unpublished texts for historians, with expert commentary, and many of the early volumes remain in regular use. The publication is on-going (two volumes per annum), and the volumes are currently published by Cambridge University Press. The series now comprises over 325 volumes.

Heavy chipping, soiling and…wear on spine and hinges. Heavy shelf wear and soiling to covers. Marbled page ends are faded and with yellowing. Inside front & back cover hinges are cracked with tape on the front cover hinge. They are still attached. Previous owners name, address and date of death on the ffep. Yellowing and foxing to inside front and back covers, ffep's, bfep's and text. Text has very light marking in pencil with only marked pages found. For its age the text is still in good condition. Frontispiece of Shakespeare has moderate foxing. includes "a history of the stage, a life of the poet, and an introduction to each play: the text of the plays corrected by the manuscript emendations contained in the recently discovered folio of 1632. To which are added glossarial and explanatory notes, and notes to the emendations, containing the readings of former editions by John L. Jewett." All books are individually examined and described. Never ex-lib unless stated.
