Autograph letter in French from Jean-Jacques Phillipe Carayan Talpayrac (1766-1833), to the French Minister of Finance, Martin-Michel-Charles Gaudin, Duc de Gaete. 2pp., on bifolium. The letter advising the Minister that M. Daumy, has on account of his health, been unable to fulfil his role as Mint Master in Toulouse, and proposing that he, Carayon Talpayrac, should take over the position. With an addition to one edge from a Madame Perignon, recommending the petitioner as a man with great knowledge in his field and as someone with a reputation for order and probity. Madame Perignon possible Helen-Catherine de Grenier (1764-1816) wife of the French Marshall, Catherine Dominique de Perignon, 1st Marquis de Perignon. The Perignons were related to the Carayan Talpayracs and lived in Montech, close to Toulouse. In any case, the petition appears to have had a positive outcome; Carayon Talpayrc was Mint Master in Toulouse from1811-1822, and his son, who went on to succeed him, from 1822-1837.
