A near fine copy with a small neat contemporary signature to the front endpaper; fresh and clean inside and out. Originally published in book form in 1853 but not becoming really popular until the 1890s when the publisher increased sales by offering lower-priced illustrated editions. The episodic novel was later adapted to radio, theater, and television productions. 12mo. 290 pages. Tissue-guarded frontispiece. Illustrated throughout with drawings.

Other Edition is from Donohue Brothers (no date, circa 1900), Chicago, "complete and unabridged ", with silver pattern decorated spine on flower patterned boards, sharp cornered, mild age toning to edges. Book is solidly bound and clean throughout; b&w illustrations throughout. Free of any markings, not ex-library.

Elizabeth Cleghorn Gaskell (1810-1865) was a British novelist and biographer. Cranford was first published in 1853 after appearing in magazines as a serial, and chronicles the lives of women in a small town, and the return of their brother. Lovely late 19th-century aesthetic binding with a woodland theme.
