Giuseppe Primoli - Longue lettre autographe signee de 4 pages - WW1 - Exil de l'Imperatrice Eugenie - 1915 Longue lettre autographe signee de Giuseppe Primoli, adressee a un ami "Amico carissimo !", non datee. Redigee a l'encre noire sur deux feuillets de papier verge filigrane a entete de Farnborough Hill (Angleterre), lieu d'exil de l'Imperatrice Eugenie. Primoli livre un temoignage saisissant sur la situation geopolitique et militaire de l'epoque. Il decrit tout d'abord son sejour aux cotes de l'Imperatrice Eugenie, veuve de Napoleon III, qu'il nomme avec emotion "la Grande Survivante". Il decrit le traumatisme ravive de l'Imperatrice face a l'invasion allemande : " 1870 : Il lui semblait regravir son Calvaire. Elle a ouvert un hopital dans une aile de la maison et les blesses qui se succedent [.] nous tiennent en contact avec le champ de bataille." La lettre evoque egalement la creation de l'armee de Kitchener toute proche : "on assiste a une merveilleuse metamorphose : on voit arriver [.] des hommes debrailles et peu de jours apres on voit partir pour le front des soldats admirablement equipes". Primoli n'hesite pas a emettre des critiques feroces. Il s'en prend a l'ambiguite pacifiste du Pape Benoit XV : "j'ai ma coupole - celle de Saint Pierre - mais celle-la je suis parfois tente de la renier car Celui qui l'habite me semble confondre du haut de sa loggia la tombe avec le Saint-Esprit !" Il evoque les tractations pour faire entrer l'Italie en guerre, fustigeant la presence de l'ambassadeur allemand von Bulow a Rome, et esperant que les manigances allemandes voleront en eclat "comme de simples chiffons de papier !" (celebre metaphore historique assumee par le chancelier allemand pour designer le traite de neutralite de la Belgique).
