Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. Brinley, Putnam (illustratore). Near fine condition blue cloth boards with gold spine lettering contained in a good condition color illustrated dust jacket. Includes Author Dedication; List of Illustrations. Illustrated with black-and-white drawings, a black-and-white frontispiece and two color illustrated front and rear endpapers. Edgewear to the jacket edges and two repaired closed tears (see photographs). All pages are in fine unmarked condition and the spine is exceedingly tight and square (see photos). "A gay, informal pilgrimage to one of the most quaintly fascinating regions on this continent is here recounted in a way which not only tells a delightful story of personal adventure, but also presents a complete picture of the country of absorbing interest to anyone contemplating a trip to the Gaspe, or to anyone who has been there. The author and her husband, the illustrator, set out in a car from their home in Connecticut. All they expected to find was gorgeous scenery, thinking of their trip in terms of solitude. But they hadn't gone a hundred miles when humanity broke in on them in the person of a jovial pessimist. From then on for four leisurely months until the end of their thirty-two hundred mile trip they were keyed for comedy, and always found, if they traveled slowly enough, that comedy overtook them. From Connecticut to Quebec, and thence all the way around the Gaspe Peninsula, La Flavie to Matapedia, they camped, taking sun, rain, or wind as it came. Cancing with the Habitants at Madeleine, braving the Wicked Horse of Gaspe, fishing for trout in a log jam at Coin-du-Banc with old George La Flamme. Among the many aspects touched upon are: native life, logging, handicrafts, churches, wild flowers, sea birds, fish and game. At the back, routes around the Gaspe Peninsula are given together with many useful details about the various towns and points of special interest, hotels, hunting and fishing permits, customs regulations, etc." - from the inner front jacket flap.
