N…é à Montfort-en-Chalosse, Pierre-Roger Ducos (1747-1816) fut consul provisoire, au début du Consulat, après Napoléon Bonaparte et Sieyès. Le peintre Quenedey s'associa en 1788 avec Chrétien, l'inventeur du physionotrace, puis partit exercer de son côté à Paris dès août 1789 jusqu'en mai 1796. Der Schriftsteller, Politiker und Revolutionär Jean Baptiste Baron de Cloots du Val-de-Grâce (genannt Anacharsis Cloots) (1755-1794) wird durch seinen Auftritt vor der Nationalversammlung…am 19. Juli 1790 eine der berühmtesten politischen Personen in Paris. Er nennt sich von da an "Redner des Menschengeschlechtes". Am 24. März 1794 wird er nach einem viertägigen Schauprozess hingerichtet. Joseph Beuys bezeichnet ihn als Freigeist und Kosmopolit. - Unter Physionotrace versteht man radierte Profilporträts, die mit Hilfe eines eigens entwickelten Silhouettierstuhls und der Abtastung durch einen Pantograph überwiegend zwischen 1786 und 1830 meist in Paris hergestellt wurden. Die Druckplatte wird in unterschiedlichen Radiertechniken vom Künstler vervollständigt. Das Physionotrace war im Gegensatz zur Silhouette ein teilmechanisiertes Abbildungsverfahren und galt schon früh als Vorläufer der Photographie. - Der Radierer Edme Quenedey - erster Partner von Chretiens, dem Erfinder des Verfahrens - macht sich 1789 in Paris als Physionotracist selbstständig, arbeitet von 1796 bis 1801 in Hamburg und anschließend wieder in Paris. - Gering angestaubt. Vereinzelt mit leichten Falten und wenigen Stockflecken. Insgesamt sehr breitrandiges und gut erhaltenes Exemplar.

Non comune esempio di ritratto ottenuto con la tecnica del Physionotrace, strumento meccanico-ottico per la riproduzione semi-automatica del profilo del soggetto; la silhouette, a grandezza naturale (grand trait) o in scala, veniva arricchita di dettagli da un miniaturista ed incisa su piastra per la… riproduzione. La tecnica venne sviluppata attorno alla metà degli anni 1780 da Gilles-Louis Chrétien (1754-1811), che ebbe in Quenedey dapprima un collaboratore e poi un affermato concorrente. Sicuramente il più noto sistema pre-fotografico di ritratto ottico-meccanico, il Physionotrace si diffuse in Europa nel corso del XIX secolo, tanto per la committenza aristocratica ed altoborghese, con l'affermarsi della moda delle silhouette, quanto per la produzione di raccolte di immagini di personaggi celebri; la dagherrotipia e la fotografia portarono rapidamente all'oblio questa affascinante quanto macchinosa tecnica. Curioso e raro.

Ebeling.'[NL] Antieke tekening van Ernestus…Ebeling, Amsterdams advocaat en koopman. Zijn dochter Anna Maria Ebeling was zelf kunstenaar en prominent kunstverzamelaarster. Waarschijnlijk een kopie naar een physionatrce van Quenedey. Ebeling trouwde in 1788 met Paul Iwas Hogguer, koopman en bankier. Hij werd in 1814 de eerste directuer van de Nederlandsche Bank en een jaar later verheven in de Nederlandse adel met predicaat jonkheer. In 1798 kreeg Anna Maria de gouden medaille van de Maatschappij tot Redding van Drenkelingen nadat ze een 13 jarige jongen na verdrinking had gereanimeerd.In 1801 werd zij honorair lid van de Stadstekenacademie. De in 1718 opgerichte Stadstekenacademie, voorloper van de Koninklijke Academie, liet geen vrouwen als lid toe. Zij konden vanaf 1801 wel benoemd worden tot honorair lid. Tussen 1801 en 1821 gebeurde dat 23 keer, Hogguer-Ebeling was de eerste vrouw die deze eer te beurt viel.Anna Maria Hogguer-Ebeling overleed op 44-jarige leeftijd op huize Slotzicht in Vreeland.
