Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. Jacket and illustrations by Ralph Steadman (illustratore). 1st Edition. First edition, first impression with full number line. Some edge wear to top and bottom of fabulous jacket of a bemused red nosed stag, and spine, corners very slightly bruised, spine very slightly faded, not price clipped but price scribbled over but still visible (£16.99), Heal's sticker to bottom front flap, some slight yellowing to back jacket and part of a glass ring (whisky?), internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy. 160pp, lavishly illustrated. Asked to create a series of illustrations on whisky and its ways, artist and cartoonist Ralph Steadman embraced the subject with enthusiasm. Enthralled by an industry steeped in rich folklore and mysterious tales as dark as peat, and by the magical liquid that it produces, he embarked on the whisky trail. Travelling the length and breadth of Scotland and its islands he visited distilleries and explored the landscapes on which their whisky depends. He talked to the characters behind them, to the workers and distillers whose nose for the nuances of every inhalation brings them 'as near as a human being can get to emulating the homing instinct of a salmon swimming up river to breed'. Within the pages of this book, informed and irreverent at the same time, the reader can discover the essence of the truly great whiskies and also less familiar pleasures in the unexpected finds Steadman makes along the way. Essential to all whisky lovers.

Full page color illustrations by Ralph Steadman. (illustratore). Limited edition. 195, [5]. 17.25" x 13" RELEASED INTO A POST-THOMPSON WORLD The Curse of Lono almost never saw the light of day. In the throes of drugs, alcohol, and writer's block, Hunter S. Thompson couldn't form his experiences at the 1980 Hawaii Marathon into something cohesive. He and editor Alan Rinzler eventually pieced his tale together through taped interviews and notes scrawled on napkins. Rinzler stole the stray notes, padded the manuscript with quotes to create some semblance of coherence, and released Thompson's hallucinogenic experience with Ralph Steadman's spattered illustrations. Wildly unpopular upon its 1983 publication and long out of print, Taschen published this limited edition, signed by both Thompson and Steadman in 2005, just a month after Thompson's death. Limited to 1000 numbered copies, of which this is 703, signed on the limitation page. Lightly soiled front board's fore edge, very slightly bowed front board, still fine, in fine publisher's slipcase. Publisher's full white cloth, illustratively stamped in black, red, and blue, housed in publisher's orange cloth slipcase. Includes publisher's shipping box. Signed.

First edition of the author's third book and hallmark of campaign journalism. Octavo, original black boards, illustrated by Ralph Steadman. Boldly signed on the half-title page by Hunter Thompson, Ralph Steadman and Jimmy Carter opposite the half-title page. Fine in a near fine first issue price-clipped dust jacket with the white border around the photograph of Thompson and McGovern on the rear panel. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box. Rare and desirable. Forty years after its original publication, Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72 remains a cornerstone of American political journalism and one of the bestselling campaign books of all time. Hunter S. Thompson's searing account of the battle for the 1972 presidencyfrom the Democratic primaries to the eventual showdown between George McGovern and Richard Nixonis infused with the characteristic wit, intensity, and emotional engagement that made Thompson "the flamboyant apostle and avatar of gonzo journalism" (The New York Times). Hilarious, terrifying, insightful, and compulsively readable, Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72 is an epic political adventure that captures the feel of the American democratic process better than any other book ever written. "Thompson should be recognized for contributing some of the clearest, most bracing and fearless analysis of the possibilities and failures of American democracy in the past century" (Chicago Tribune).

First edition of Thompson's second book. Octavo, original half cloth, illustrated. Boldly signed in full by Hunter S. Thompson on the half-title page. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket with the a touch of shelfwear. Illustrations by Ralph Steadman. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box made by the Harcourt Bindery. An exceptional signed example. The novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is based on two trips to Las Vegas, Nevada, that Hunter S. Thompson took with attorney and Chicano activist Oscar Zeta Acosta in March and April 1971. Thompson wrote that he concluded their March trip by spending some 36 hours alone in a hotel room "feverishly writing in my notebook" about his experiences. The genesis of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream is in that notebook. The book "cemented Mr. Thompson's place as a singular presence in American journalism or, as he once called himself, 'a connoisseur of edge work'" (New York Times). It was adapted into the 1998 film directed by Terry Gilliam, starring Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro.
