Costui fu inquisito ed arrestato dal gonfaloniere Pier Soderini per "aver abusato della pubblica autorità per aderire al piacere di due dame": le dame in questione erano le nipoti legittime di Ignazio Scarlatti, soggetto a circonvenzione dal famiglio Pietro Ducci per indurlo a far testamento in suo favore. A Caggini in qualità di Commissario del Quartiere di S. Spirito a cui Scarlatti apparteneva, si erano rivolte Maria Scarlatti Baldigiani e Virginia Scarlatti da Cepperello.
