Good to very good good condition, with expected wear for a 1926 photoplay edition. The color pictorial wrappers are bright and intact, featuring John Barrymore and Estelle Taylor in a vivid embrace against a crimson background, though there is moderate surface rubbing, faint creasing, and light corner rounding. The spine shows mild lean and rubbing at the crown and foot, with a few small nicks to the paper. The rear wrapper retains its monochrome film still montage but displays some scuffing and edge wear. Internally, the text block is uniformly toned with age but clean and supple, free of major foxing or tears; a previous owner's name appears in pen on the front flyleaf. Binding remains sound with no loose pages. A well-preserved and visually appealing copy of a scarce film tie-in title from the silent era. Photoplay edition issued to coincide with the Warner Bros. silent film Don Juan (1926), starring John Barrymore, Mary Astor, and Estelle Taylor?the first feature-length film to use the Vitaphone sound-on-disc system. Octavo, perfect-bound in color pictorial wrappers with blue border, rear wrapper featuring five monochrome stills from the film, 118 pp. (approx.). The novelization closely follows the screenplay by Bess Meredyth, adapting Barrymore's romanticized and tragic interpretation of the legendary seducer. These motion picture tie-ins, sold in theaters and newsstands, represented an early form of Hollywood marketing synergy.

Hardcover. Condizione: Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Poor. 1st Edition. First edition hardcover, bound in dark tan cloth, with black lettering on front cover and on spine, is in G condition, having a slight concavity to spine, some faint residue spots of some kind of lacquer on front and back covers, and general page darkening typical of books of this age and grade of rather inexpensive paper. Dust jacket, enclosed in protective mylar (mylar not pictured), is in Poor condition, having much chipping and wear to edges, a missing chunk on the back left bottom side, tears and wrinkles, and faint lacquer spot on front. Still, the front cover is arresting in color, showing John Barrymore and Mary Astor in a romantic embrace. The jacket is price-clipped. Strangely, on the DJ spine there is no typical printed title, but just a typed (with a typewriter) title: "Don Juan." Possibly a seller's sample? A rare item in hardcover and DJ. As typical of Jacobsen movie editions, there are no interior photographs, but back of DJ shows five photos from the film, but unfortunately little remains of the one at the bottom left. "Lithe swashbuckler in the best silent tradition, but with a synchronized score (by William Axt) which made it a sensation and led directly to the talkie revolution."--Leslie Halliwell. Cinema.
