Slight soiling to edges and covers. Minor damage to spine and covers. ; Hardcover; Quarto; Our knowledge of the origin, evolution, nature, and distribution of organic matter in space has undergone a revolution in recent years. Insights into various aspects of this material can be found using a variety of different technical approaches. These range from telescopic measurements by observational astronomers over a wide range of wavelengths, to laboratory experiments and simulations by chemists, physicists, and spectroscopists, and analyses of actual extraterrestrial materials. IAU Symposium 251 brought together expertise of scientists from different disciplines, including observational astronomers, laboratory spectroscopists, and solar system scientists, to provide a synthesis of our current understanding of these organics and to identify areas in which additional work and new ideas are required to further our understanding.

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Lettice Sandford (illustratore). 25x16cm, 87pp. With illustrations by Lettice Sandford printed in black and hand-coloured. Copy 15 of 60 (300), signed by Walter Sidney Scott and Sandford, bound by Sangorski and Sutcliffe in quarter-cream sheepskin over 'cloth of gold' patterned cloth-covered boards, a.e.g., gilt title to backstrip, in a slipcase of thin cream card. The original plan was for this book to be illustrated by Joan Hassall, but after many delays Christopher Sandford turned to his wife. He was disappointed by the hand-colouring done by 'a lady working from home in Hendon' (Cave & Manson) although the work seems pleasant enough here. The letters were known as the 'Lushington Papers', lent by Susan Lushington, a friend of Lettice Sandford's. Scarce and rather luxurious in the special edition as here, with the rich 'cloth of gold' brocade and all edges gilt (as Sandford notes in Cock-a-Hoop) Very Good (Fine but for moderate toning to backstrip) in a Fair (splits along several edges, rather grubby) slipcase. Cock-a-Hoop 193.

Aggiungi al carrelloFull-Leather. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: No dj. seventh edition. Six volume set in original full-leather bindings, dark brown with blind-embossed curly borders and central motif to boards. Spines have raised bands, blind embossed tooling in compartments, gilt title labels are dulled, remaining clear. There is some splitting starting at the ends of some of the hinges of volumes I to IV, most of the hinge length on these four volumes remains sound and servicable. Volume V has split along the entire length of the rear hinge and the bottom third of the front hinge, both boards holding OK by the robust inner cloth hinge re-inforcement. Volume VI is badly split along the front and back hinges, and the front inner cloth hinge is split half-way, with the board threatening to detach. The spines are of the solid type, so some cloth re-inforcement on the inner hinge would prevent further loosening. The boards have general shelfwear with a few scuffs and bumped/worn/rounded corners which are not too bad given the age. The text blocks are tight and the pages clean on high quality paper with marbled text block edges which have faded over time. Only the endpapers and one or two of the title pages have a little browning and freckling, as well as the odd crease. Overall this would make a great reference set and will hold together as long as volumes V and VI are handled carefully. The text blocks themselves look set to last another couple of hundred years. Price includes extra for worldwide airmail shipping on the heavy 15-kilo set. Size: 4to.
