Surpreendentemente muitos estados distintos parecem coexistir em alguns materiais na faixa de temperaturas onde transitam para o estado supercondutor. Em alguns compostos surgem a supercondutividade em tiras e, ao mesmo tempo, algumas regiões levemente condutoras, e outras isolantes. O grande quebra cabeça da supercondutividade de alta temperatura não foi desvendado: é um problema aberto. Esse trabalho propõe abordar o problema através da competição entre uma instabilidade e a supercondutividade tradicional. A técnica matemática é muito robusta pois é difícil abordar tais problemas de forma exclusivamente analítica. Mas consegue-se perceber o efeito dessa competição, pelo menos de uma forma qualitativa.
