His broad career included biographer, bibliographer, anthologist and art curator. He is best known for his Dictionary of Australian Biography, 1949. More than 100 people - writers, artists, professors and others - are mentioned in this memoir, testimony to widespread network. (No 115 of a limited edition of 350 autographed copies, designed and printed by A.T. Bolton at the Officina Brindabella, 1988. Hand binding and paper decoration by Helen Wadlington.
