Prima edizione
Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. Vaclav Spala (illustratore). 1st Edition. Octavo 22.5 × 15.5 cm, 5 [1] pp. Original wrappers with a linocut by Václav Spála. With a two-page foreword by Karel Capek, celebrating the group as a renewal in art rejecting the artistic conventions with their epigones to pioneer a new beauty rooted in life itself. The catalogue lists exhibited works with prices. A rare and important document of the Czech avant-garde group Tvrdosíjní (The Obstinate Ones), founded by Josef Capek, Jan Zrzavý, Václav Spála, and Vlastislav Hofman, who were the leading visual artists of Czech Cubism. The scarcely encountered catalogue of the second exhibition of the Tvrdosíjní, one of the most important Czech avant-garde collectives of the early interwar years. Founded in 1918, the group resisted Impressionist influence and academic convention, insisting on a bold, independent modernism. Published by Weinertova umelecká a aukcní sín, a Prague art and auction hall notable for staging radical avant-garde exhibitions, including both the first 1918 "A prece!" show and this Second Exhibition of Tvrdosíjní (1920). No holdings found worldwide through OCLC; ambiguous reference to it at the NKC. Very good+.
