A very good copy. $25. * This book analyzes the Ching Dynasty legal system, arguing that non-state mechanisms like custom, morality, and guilds played a larger role in social order than formal law. The book posits that Ching law prioritized state control over individual justice and that the central government showed little interest in private rights, which were handled locally.
