Spine not creased. 240 x 210 mm. 192 pp. A history of the Grey family from the middle ages to the last of the line, Roger Grey, 10th Earl of Stamford, who died in 1976. Anthony Squires' study encompasses figures such as the ill-fated Lady Jane, whose reign as Queen of England lasted just nine days, as well as places such as Bradgate House in Leicestershire, Enville Hall in Staffordshire, and Dunham Massey in Cheshire. The text is supported with b&w illustrations and a family tree, plus bibliography, references and index. Book.

Volume VII, No. 3, the Summer, 1954 issue of Science-Fiction Advertiser; this is the new name and (somewhat) new, longer form of the earlier incarnation, Fantasy Advertiser fanzine. Roy Squires had long since taken over editing from Norman "Gus" Wilmorth by this time, and wasn't far from bringing it into its heyday. Though longer and a bit richer, at this time the fanzine was still focused on book reviews and ads, and apart from Morris Scott Dollens carried little in the way of interior art and virtually no fiction.yet. Even the reviews, essays and articles gave precious little credit to the writers, who were often the editor or his assistants. None of that would last.Cover is by Dollens, and there are a couple small ones inside by him as well. Octavo, stapled wraps, 33 numbered pages. Near Fine copy, with only the inevitable modest toning to the paper (see scans). High grade. Very sharp, undamaged copy. An early example of the uniquely American sci-fi / fantasy fanzine genre. One or two interesting articles per issue - in this case Anthony More's profile of Arthur C. Clarke - and some rare illustrations, but still, to this point in 1954, largely book reviews, ads and a bit of opinion. See scan of contents page for this issue's offerings. Nicely executed book reviews. A classic issue from a fanzine classic from the golden age of sci-fi with all its special genres; replete with the detailed trappings of that world - Science fiction, fantasy and horror, of course. Volume VI, No. 3, the November, 1952 issue of what had been the Fantasy Advertiser fanzine, titles now, for the first time in this issue, Science Fiction Advertiser. Cover by Morris Scott Dollens, who has another piece inside. Octavo, illustrated stapled wraps, unpaginated, but 18 pp. + covers. Near Fine copy, with perimeter age toning, otherwise flawless. A high grade, very sharp, undamaged copy. Its content of ads, book lists, book reviews, plus some commentary by "the editor", that being Roy Squires by this time, remains essentially unchanged from its Fantasy Advertiser days. In this issue: Anthony More, "Hal Clement: A Science Fiction Style"; other reviews and discussions are uncredited, are presumably by Squires and other regulars. This issue is mostly ads for the books, however; it was presumably a busy time. A classic issue from a fanzine classic from the golden age of sci-fi, replete with ads, sale and auction notifications, publications notices, and more - all focused on science fiction, fantasy and horror, by intent, but mostly on Science Fiction by execution at this time. A suite of 15 broadsides that each measure 9" wide by 14" high and are all printed in two colors on Rives paper. Includes broadsides by: Philip, John Ciardi, Donald Davie, Anthony Hecht, James Merrill, W.S. Merwin, Howard Moss, Howard Nemerov, Karl Shapiro, Louis Simpson, W.D. Snodgrass, Radcliffe Squires, William Stafford, Mark Strand, and John Updike. All of the broadsides are in fine condition and are housed in a fine chemise with marbled paper covered boards with a cloth spine. Each broadside is signed. A lovely set. Signed.
